Don’t take iron supplements unless your blood tests show you need them.

The symptoms of being low on iron include:
Fatigue and weakness, pale skin, brittle nails, dizziness and lightheadedness, Headaches.

But these symptoms are common for various other conditions and vitamin deficiencies, so experiencing them doesn’t necessarily mean you are low on iron specifically.

It’s important not to assume that iron supplements are the solution. Taking iron when you don’t need it can lead to harmful side effects.

Excess iron cannot be excreted by the body so ONLY take iron if your blood test reveal that you need it.

On the other side of the coin. If your blood test have revealed that you DO need iron, be sure to give it a clear path to absorption. Some over-the-counter medications, like antacids (e.g., Gaviscon) and aspirin, can affect iron uptake.

So before reaching for an iron supplement, make sure you need it and make sure you give it chance to work.
